TEACHER: Texas Heroes is a professional troupe of historians/actors who tell the story of Texas and American heroes and heroines in the first person. Each performer is dressed in a historically accurate costume and becomes that person. Audiences from kindergarten on up through senior citizens love listening to and watching Texas Heroes.
A Texas Heroes Experience consists of:
An absorbing one person 25-45 minute "stage" performance with at least 15 minutes at the end for students to ask any questions they want. Most teachers say they have never seen their students so involved...so quiet. And Texas Heroes programs are even TEKS supportive! Your ability to tailor the school period timeframe means you can match this edutainment experience with your scheduling needs.
A Curriculum Guide for the selected character is sent to teachers in advance of the program. This Guide provides ideas on pre- and post-program activities to multiply the impact of the program.

Texas Heroes portrayals are appropriate for K-12 :
- Grades K-3: Start younger students out finding the fun in learning history with our unique programs for younger students. TEKS requires learning of local history in 2nd grade.
- Grades 4-5: Most school systems in Texas require Texas history be taught in the 4th grade. What a wonderful time to use this unique TEKS supportive technique to introduce impressionable students to exciting Texas history.
- Grades 6-8: Most school systems in Texas require Texas history be taught again in the 7th grade. This is a time to challenge the students who are getting their second view of Texas history by having them come face-to-face with people they have read about. Expose some for the first time to Texas history....help them with the TAKS tests. In 8th grade, American history is taught....two pivotal individuals in American history are Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin
- Grades 9-12: This is the time to reinforce the student knowledge of Texas history through the use of our "edutainment" vehicle. Let them relive the Texas Revolution in one hour, or hear the tales of the cattle drives and ranching, or find out about a part of Texas history they didn't get in their text books. And, in our transient society, how many of your students didn't live in Texas in 4th or 7th grade? In 11th grade, American history is taught....two pivotal individuals in American history are Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin.
- Inservice programs: Bob Heinonen personally provides either keynote presentations or individual sessions. Teachers have an opportunity to upgrade their current knowledge of Texas history and learn some new tricks in teaching it.
The length of the portrayal is set but the Q&A session is adjustable. Audiences up to 150 are appropriate; the smaller the group, the more impact the message.
The fee for a single program with one character and up to 150 students is $275. If additional programs are needed, back-to-back programs are $225 each.
