When we send out the paperwork in advance of each performance, we include a form.   We ask both about the performance and how we have served you....we hope we get a response but we do not require one.

Here are a few of our client's written comments!

For comments other than from schools, click here.

First, here are two letters to Jack Edmondson we recieved from 4th grade students at Green Valley Elementary School:

Letter 1: "I really liked your performance at our school. It was really dramatic. I mean, just when you thought it would end, you would start back up. It was also really, well, real. You looked exactly like the real guy standing in front of us fourth graders. He probably led a long and wonderful life. I like studying history and wars and all that stuff. Especially if the battlefield is very famous. Also Sam Houston was the President of the Republic of Texas.....Sam Houston, President of the U. S. of A.! Hehe. Houston was probably a very fun person to be around. Speaking of which, you are pretty good at acting. Or being a historian. Anyway, about Erastus "Deaf" Smith, did he fight in any other battles? I mean, the way you told it, he was Dudley Doright, Sr.! He must've been the sillier one around San Jacinto. Speaking of silly, did he crack jokes at San Jacinto Battlefield, as far as you have researched? All right, I think I've drilled you enough for one lifetime! See ya. Sincerely, Shawn

Letter 2: "I think that your speech was just so awesome I would definitely like to hear it again & that really goes along with our text books. You really answered all of my questions & now I know so much more & now I can go home & tell my mom & dad about it & I don't think you should add or delete anything in your speech. I loved your performance. I would definetly recommend you coming back because I think you would educate a lot of kids about Texas history. I have one question, was that a dulled sword? Do you enjoy educating kids? Your are such a good actor that words can't explain how good you were. I loved your props like that sword & the cane & your gloves looked as if Indians made them. And I heard a little bit of humor in your speech. Your on my best speech list & you're number 1 on it. From, Thyh"

Here is some of the other feedback we get!

Very impressive. Only wish we could afford to hear all the characters. Kids sat and listened without any problems. It helps bring history to life. They could relate ideas to what we learned in class. Mr. Heinonen is full of wonderful details and very knowledgable!

How do you feel about our service to you? Good - not any problems

Was the Curriculum Guide helpful? Yes - very informative - sent the websites to parents

This is from Ms. April Seeds who is a teacher at The Lamplighter School in Dallas
about the performance by Jack Edmondson as Sam Houston on April 20, 2007.

Susanna Dickenson has been to our school several times. Since we read the novel, I Remember The Alamo, before she comes, the students are always amazed to see her necklace. They know who gave it to her and why. Her emotions fit well with her story.

How do you feel about our service to you? Great!

This is from Ms. Jeannine Valentine who is a teacher at Smith Elementary School in Duncanville
about the performance by Linda Sanders as Susanna Dickenson on March 30, 2007.

- Exellent presentation & appropriate time for our Alamo Musical which will be presented March 29th.
- Students were attentive & had excellent questions for Mr. Heinonen. Mr. Heinonen spoke clearly & in character throughout the presentation.
- Heinonen says "I was divorced from my wife." Many students were surprised to learn that Travis was divorced. I think this is an issue that needs more exposure & to let students know it's okay & needs working out.
- Great speaker, tone, and interesting! He was awesome!

How do you feel about our service to you? Excellent & would like to do it again next year!

This is from the librarian and a teacher at Williams Elementary School in Georgetown
about the performance by Bob Heinonen as William Barret Travis on March 6, 2007.

This was our very first videoconference experience, and we couldn't have asked for it to go any better than it did. The fourth grade students were enthralled with your portrayal of Stephen F. Austin, and it enriched their overall understanding of Texas history. The connection through Region 13 went smoothly and the program started on time and lasted the entire hour. The only problem with the quality of the connection was when you moved around during your monologue, the picture went a little blurry. Your voice was always clear though.

This is from Ms. Robyn Jacobs who is the Instructional Technology Specialist at Spring Valley Elementary School in Hewitt
about the videoconferenced performance by Bob Heinonen as Stephen F. Austin on April 27, 2006.

The children loved it! They are quick to criticize, but everyone enjoyed the performance, and they STILL learned! His portrayal was accurate and believable. He was knowledgeable and interesting. I will be booking another performance! I really liked the postcard.

I think this is great. This is the closest they will be to a Texas Hero. Fourth graders are tactile learners, and this is as close to hands-on as you can get for Texas history.

This is from Ms. Sherry Robinett who is a 4th grade teacher at Morningside Elementary School in Dumas
about the performance
by Bob Heinonen as Charles Goodnight on May 16, 2006.

Fantastic!

This is from Mr. Gary Bentley who is a Texas History Teacher at Eustace Middle School in Eustace
about the performance by Bob Heinonen as William Barret Travis on February 1, 2006.

Dear Bob,
Thank you so much for a wonderful performance at our school today. The students really enjoyed what you had to say as William B. Travis and I was pleased with the questions you were asked at the end. In our present day, it is rare to find an opportunity to show children a true story-teller. Using your voice and costume and presence, we could all hear the cannons booming, see Santa Anna as his army arrived in San Antonio, and feel the power of the resolve the heroes in the Alamo had in their hearts to fight to the end. Thank you for showing our students the power of the spoken word to convey the events of Texas history.

I am sorry I didn’t get to thank you in person after the performance, as I had to leave for another obligation, but I wanted you to know how much the teachers appreciated your coming and what a quality offering you gave to our students today.

Have a merry Christmas and wonderful New Year---

This is from Mrs. Susie Dale who represents the PTA at White Rock Elementary School in Dallas about the performance by Bob Heinonen as William Barret Travis on December 15, 2005

Kids love hearing from Cynthia Ann Parker via the internet.

How do you feel about our service to you? Very good - kids loved it!

This is from a teacher at Hill Elementary School in Arlington about the performance by Helen Garrison as Cynthia Ann Parker on October 11, 2005.

The actors are animated and the students actually think the character is there talking to them. Their questions lead you to believe they think that way.

How do you feel about our service to you? I appreciate how available you are. Thanks, also, for the newsletters.

This is from Ms. Jeannine Valentine who is a teacher at Smith Elementary School in Duncanville about the performance by Bob Heinonen as Charles Goodnight on May 23, 2005.

Thank you for making our first video-conference experience a success! Our students had a great time. They were involved, included, and remained engaged in the learning process for well over an hour. They were a bit nervous about asking questions, but once they got started they really had some good questions. It was interesting to see the way student questions evolved from simply asking questions about the historical figure, Charles Goodnight, to asking Mr. Heinonen about acting as a profession.

How do you feel about our service to you? I felt at ease with the planning of this video-conference. Mr. Heinonen kept in contact with me via email. He was very prompt about sending correspondence and supplemental materials to our school through the mail. Thank you and hope to do this again very soon.

This is from Mr. Jeff Baker who is a 7th grade teacher at Manor Middle School in Manor about the video conference performance by Bob Heinonen as Charles Goodnight on March 30, 2005.

Mr. Heinonen is very entertaining and keeps the students' attention. He shared some interesting details about Charles Goodnight that you won't find in a textbook.

How do you feel about our service to you? I think this program is very beneficial to students, because it makes studying history enjoyable, instead of reading a text and answering questions. It is especially helpful to auditory learners.

This is from Mr. Jeff Chunda who is a teacher at Flatonia Secondary School in Flatonia about the video conference performance by Bob Heinonen as Charles Goodnight on April 13, 2005.

This is from Ms. Cyndy Reynolds who is the Librarian at Williams Elementary School in Georgetown about the performance by Bob Heinonen as William Barret Travis on January 21, 2005.

Thanks for the opportunity for our children to see, in person, Stephen F. Austin. They loved it! The information we received before hand [Curriculum Guide] helped us to go over vocabulary such as Texians with our students for better understanding. Students loved asking questions and are so inquisitive about researching Texas Heroes even more.

How do you feel about our service to you? Great

How do you feel about our service to you? You went out of your way

This is from Mrs. Thompson at Hill Elementary School in Arlington about the performance by Jack Edmondson as Sam Houston on November 22, 2004.

Bob has a feel for Travis. His accounts enthralled the students and had them asking for more. What a great program to supplement our curriculum.

Jack is a fabulous Texas historian who takes the students through the history of Houston's important role. The students are engaged throughout the entire performance.

I really look forward to the Texas Heroes every year; Bob does such a fabulous job of depicting William Travis. The knowledge he conveys to the students is such an ally for us in the classroom!

Jack is superb! He has a command of the Texas History that captivates the children. Can't wait till next year!

How do you feel about our service to you?
Outstanding.

These are from Mrs. Neill and Mrs. Anthony who are 4th grade teachers at Ashworth Elementary School in Arlington about the performance by Linda Sanders as Susannah Dickenson on January 16, 2004.

We want to thank you for the opportunity to "visit" with "Sam Houston". The actor who portrayed Houston was excellent. He was so into the part; the accent was so authentic sounding. His information was very interesting. The adults as well as the students thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Please pass on our gratitude for the wonderful program to "Sam". I do not remember his real name, but I would be interested to know as I would like to read his "Alamo" book. Could you please e-mail me his e-mail address? If it is more convenient, you can just ask him and send me the information. I would appreciate it.

This is from Ms. Rita James who is a 4th grade teacher at Kiest Elementary School in Dallas about the performance by Jack Edmondson as Sam Houston on January 8, 2004.

Both actors were excellent. The students sat on the cold cafeteria floor for nearly 1.5 hours with no problems at all because both men were so good at their roles. Parents, teachers & students who attended all were excited about hearing the actors & were spellbound due to the actors' convincing role playing.

How do you feel about our service to you? Everything -from emails about scheduling to the actual performances - was superb.

My students were excited and enjoyed the presentation. We had studied a little about Stephen F. Austin and I believe that it made them feel intelligent to hear things they knew and learn extensions about those things. I look forward to using the knowledge we gained today to help understand and focus our learning as we move into the Texas Revolution section of our curriculum.

This is from a fourth grade teacher at Puckett Elementary School in Amarillo about the performance by Bob Heinonen as Stephen F. Austin on November 12, 2003.

This is from Ms. Jennifer Harting who is a teacher at Panhandle Junior High School in Panhandle about the performance by Bob Heinonen as Stephen F. Austin on November 11, 2003.

I love doing business with this company. Dale (on the phone) is so polite & helpful. Last year Susannah Dickinson came -- this year Wm. B. Travis. Both were great -- I'm still working on my principal to let Davy Crockett come & bring Ol' Betsy.

How do you feel about our service to you? Excellent...dependable...kid-friendly. I really appreciated how kind the performer was to my low and M. R. students.

This is from Ms. Judy Ray who is a 4th grade teacher at Red Oak Elementary School in Red Oak about the performance by Bob Heinonen as William Barret Travis on November 5, 2003.

This is from Ms. Eadie Bradford who is a teacher at the Panhandle Elementary School in Panhandle about the performance by Bob Heinonen as Charles Goodnight on April 2, 2003.

Sam Houston and Deline Rose were FANTASTIC! It's amazing that a program of two people on a stage - without bells and whistles, computer- enhanced images, or Dolby Stereo - could keep the attention of 150 fourth-graders' for over an hour, but they DID. We're fortunate to have had Sam Houston visit us rather than William Travis. Travis would have been great, but with Houston's story, we experienced the "Big Picture" perspective of events in the Texas Revolution.

Both actors did an amazing job of presenting memorized material with convincing voices and body language. Our students were excited to experience history from what seemed like the original sources. Sam Houston and Deline Rose made lasting impressions on our fourth-graders. They put tremendous energy into their presentations, and we appreciated their great talent. Please pass along our compliments to them.

This is from Ms. Mary Randle at Lovejoy Elementary School in Allen about the performance by Jack Edmondson as Sam Houston and LaJuanna Faught as Deline Rose on March 5, 2003.

I was very pleased with the presentation. It went very well with our textbook and what we have been reading and studying. It was an excellent way to sum it all up in an interesting presentation.

This is from Ms. Janel Swick at Bremond ISD in Bremond about the performance by Bob Heinonen as Stephen F. Austin on April 11, 2003.

How do you feel about our service to you?  Superior

This is from Ms. Linda Kirkdorfer at Holiday Heights Elementary School in North Richland Hills about the performance by Jack Edmondson as Sam Houston on March 12, 2003.

"Sam Houston" was wonderful. I enjoyed the explanation of why he does this performance and what a historian is. When Sam began telling about the Battle of San Jacinto, my children were riveted to their seats. My students even noticed tears on "Sam's" face as he told about the deaths of many great men. We feel that this was an opportunity to bring history to life and will not pass up this opportunity next year. (Some of the battle details were over the students' heads.)

How do you feel about our service to you?  Excellent service. No problems encountered.

This is from Ms. Susan Cumby at Porter Elementary School in Mesquite about the performance by Jack Edmondson as Sam Houston on February 12, 2003.

The performance was everything I had hoped for. Our 4th & 5th graders listened attentively and asked great questions. Bob's replies to the questions added even more valuable information that the students soaked up like a sponge! He covered a huge amount of TEKS, and made everything we've been studying come alive. It was awesome!

How do you feel about our service to you?  Excellent

This is from Ms. Eadie Bradford at Panhandle Elementary School in Panhandle about the performance by Bob Heinonen as William Barret Travis on March 18, 2003.

The students were impressed that Mr. Heinonen knew his material and didn't have to read anything. They thought he acted like the real Stephen F. Austin. He spoke well and kept the audience's attention.

How do you feel about our service to you?  Great! Thanks Dale Evans for rearranging our time twice.

This is from Ms. Linda Hudson at South Birdville Elementary School in Haltom City about the performance by Bob Heinonen as Stephen F. Austin on March 17, 2003.

* Strong speaker, good theatrical voice
* In character -- great costume
* I enjoyed the evolution of the character as he became older & finally sick. Mr. Heinonens mannerisms and acting helped keep the students attention.
* I would gladly have Mr. Heinonen & The Texas Heroes back to Whittier.

How do you feel about our service to you?  Served our needs well.

This is from Ms. Moreen Andrews at Whittier Elementary School in San Antonio about the performance by Bob Heinonen as Stephen F. Austin for two performances on March 12, 2003.

This is from Ms. Diana Whiteside who is a teacher at Great Oaks Elementary School in Round Rock about the performance by Bob Heinonen as Stephen F. Austin on January 14, 2003.

Sam Houston and Susanna Dickenson were outstanding. We often forgot it was not really "them". The students thoroughly enjoyed it and had many questions which they answered to the extent that we knew they knew these people in Texas history. It adds so much more than a book could ever add.

How do you feel about our service to you?  Thanks for your prompt response to all my questions.

This is from Ms. Jeannie Valentine who is a teacher at Smith Academy in Duncanville about the performance by Jack Edmondson as Sam Houston and Linda Sanders as Susannah Dickenson on December 10, 2002.

"Sam Houston's" performance was outstanding! The sword and cane would always "draw" the students back if they ever drifted off. He also used them to really paint a picture in the audience's mind.

Susannah Dickenson seemed a little less excited about the subject matter, but as soon as she started to cry to "remember the day her husband died", myself & the other teachers felt our eyes tear up. She did an awesome job to using her shawl.

How do you feel about our service to you?  Great! Very organized & on time!

This is from Ms. Debra Giles who is a teacher at Barbara Bush Elementary School in Grand Prairie about the performance by Jack Edmondson as Sam Houston and Linda Sanders as Susannah Dickenson on December 5, 2002.

This is from Ms. Amanda McClelland who is a teacher at Elkins Elementary School in Fort Worth about the performance by Linda Sanders as Susannah Dickenson on November 22, 2002.

Mrs. Sanders did a wonderful job relating to our students. We have a wide range of ability levels -- from G. T. to M. R. Mrs. Sanders was able to relate to all students with respect and enthusiasm. Here are some student comments:

"She had to look up a lot of facts." - Justin
"I felt like I was really there with her." - Daniel
"She explained things well." - Lauren

How do you feel about our service to you?  Very pleased. No glitches at all.

This is from Ms. Judy Ray who is a teacher at Red Oak Elementary School in Red Oak about the performance by Linda Sanders as Susannah Dickenson on November 19, 2002.

This is from Ms. Dory Mitchell who is a teacher at Coyle Middle School in Rowlett about the performance by Bob Heinonen as William Barret Travis on October 14, 2002.

Enjoyed Bob Heinonen very much. He did such a good job speaking from the "first person" that the students thought he was really Wm. Travis.

How do you feel about our service to you?  Returned call quickly - invoices sent early - good instructions on what to do.

This is from Ms. Sarah Warren who is the Principal at Madisonville Intermediate School in Madisonville about the performance by Bob Heinonen as William Barret Travis on October 22, 2002.

I wanted to let you know that the 2 heroes we had here on the 17th were fabulous. S. Austin and S. Dickenson were very entertaining. Usually when there are speakers at school, the teachers are busy doing other things - we couldn't take our eyes off of them! We loved how they told some of the more trivial things rather than just what a textbook might tell you. Thanks for such a wonderful experience.

This is from Ms. Wendy Barnes who is a teacher at Noel Smith Elementary School in Frisco about a performance by Bob Heinonen as Stephen F. Austin and Linda Sanders as Susannah Dickenson on October 17, 2002.

I had an emergency doctor's visit on the morning of the presentation, and I hated to miss it. My prinicipal covered for me (who is a former Texas history teacher) and he thought it was outstanding. He said the kids were engaged for the entire time and that the presentation was exciting as well as informative. The kids also raved about it -- and for middle school students to do that is a miracle! They also retained a lot of the information from the presentation. So, in all ways, this presentation was a great success!! Thank you so very much! Hopefully, it can be a yearly event at our school.

This is from Ms. Jennifer Harding who is a teacher at Panhandle Junior High School in Panhandle about a performance by Jack Edmondson as Sam Houston on October 10, 2002.

We felt the performance was very thorough. The presenter was really an actor, not just a good speaker. We like the way you repeated the question and then answered it clearly. This is our students first program of this kind. We felt like they asked great questions so we know they were really listening.

How do you feel about our service to you?  I thought it was great. I look forward to using you in the future.

This is from Ms. Connie Wallace who is a teacher at Lake Pointe Elementary in Bee Cave about the performance by Bob Heinonen as Stephen F. Austin on October 3, 2002.

Very pleased. Any problems were totally on the part of the audience...they are not as well behaved as they were last year. Sorry Pioneer Lady. If budget allows will use you next year. I appreciate how easy the instructions on payment were. There was no confusion on what was expected from me. Thanks!

How do you feel about our service to you?  Wonderful!

This is from Ms. Miranda Bauer at the Benbrook Public Library in Benbrook about a performance by Linda Sanders as the Pioneer Lady on June 19, 2002.

It was an outstanding performance that kept the kids interested. It also gave a good overview of the Texas Revolution. One suggestion might be to involve the students in some way so they can be part of the performance.

How do you feel about our service to you?  It was awesome! You were easy to contact, & quick to respond. Thanks!

This is from Ms. Karen McIntush who is a teacher at Montgomery Junior High School in Montgomery about a performance by Bob Heinonen as William Barret Travis on April 25, 2002.

I loved the performance. For a one person portrayal of an important person in history it was great. Bob had a great speaking voice that really helped have an effect on the students. The only negative comments from students is that they would like to see more of an act from more than one person.

How do you feel about our service to you?  Great

This is from Ms. Vicki Smith who is a teacher at Caldwell Middle School in Caldwell about a performance by Bob Heinonen as William Barret Travis on April 22, 2002.

This is from Ms. Bonne Brinkmeyer who is the Principal at Krause Elementary School in Brenham about a performance by Bob Heinonen as William Barret Travis on May 8, 2002.

Our Texas Hero performance of Mr. Bob Heinonen as Col. William Barret Travis for our 7th grade Texas History classes was outstanding. Mr. Heinonen not only provided a "real-life" look at one of our state's historical figures, he entertained our students with his sense of humor and dramatic flair! I would highly recommend having Mr. Heinonen perform to any Texas History class or group. Bravo Colonel Travis!

How do you feel about our service to you?  Mr. Heinonen not only kept in touch with me about coming for the performance, he rescheduled it when our confirmed date got changed by UIL events!   He was always very courteous and helpful - our service was excellent.

+ Very informative and interesting

+ Children stayed focused – information enhanced curriculum as an extension

+ Good costume – nice storyteller (expressive and interesting)

+ Appropriate for 4th grade Texas history curriculum

- Probably leave out [the word] “hell” [as in “Santa Anna’s comin’…give’em hell boys”]

+ Good question/answer session

It was a wonderful opportunity for children to be exposed to history coming to life.  The program enhances curriculum comprehension.
