In celebration of Stephen F. Austin's 208th birthday,
the Star of the Republic Museum conducted a public symposium that delved into
all aspects of his life and times. Leading authorities presented their most
recent views of the Father of Texas' life and times.
Dr. Gregg Cantrell, author of the latest biographical work Stephen
F. Austin Empresario of Texas, principal presenter for the symposium,
focused on Austin’s relationships and motivations.
Dr. Stephen Hardin, author of Texian Iliad – A Military
History of the Texas Revolution, established the framework of the
revolutionary society in which Stephen F. Austin operated.
Bob Heinonen of Texas Heroes portrayed Stephen F. Austin
and Elizabeth Seibert of Texas Heroes portrayed Mary Austin
Holley.
Dr. Gene and Marynell Young, historical music
researchers, presented the social and cultural elements of the period music.
Symposium presenters were available to the general
public for book signings and discussion.
The Star of the Republic Museum hosted a “birthday
party” for Stephen F. Austin and sang Happy Birthday to him on his 208th
birthday.
In addition, Bob Heinonen as Stephen F.
Austin and Elizabeth Seibert as Mary Austin Holley presented in-school
programs for Brenham Junior High School students on Friday, November 2nd,
the day before the symposium, as community outreach. In addition, they visited with students in the Blinn College
Drama Department to share their experiences.
