Parents help Teachers

Questioning history

The PTA or PTO provides critical funding for extra educational activities in schools in addition to donating their valuable time. Many Heroes Of History performances are sponsored by the school's PTA or PTO. In addition, PTA's and PTO's use our programs for after-dinner theater to raise money.

Since Heroes Of History provides different programs for students in K-12, all grade levels can be serviced by PTA/PTO sponsorship. And, because we provide personalities with so many different perspectives on Texas and American history, several personalities are sought by teachers to cover a range of historic periods over several class days.

Heroes Of History is a professional troupe of historians/actors who tell the story of Texas and American heroes and heroines in the first person. Each performer is dressed in a historically accurate costume and becomes that person. Audiences from kindergarten on up through senior citizens love listening to and watching our programs.

An absorbing one person 25-45 minute "stage" performance with 15 minutes at the end to let students (or parents) ask any question they want. Most teachers say they have never seen their students so involved...so quiet. And our performances are even TEKS supportive!

The ability to tailor to the school class period means teachers can match this edutainment experience with their scheduling needs.

Heroes Of History portrayals are appropriate for kindergarten through seniors:

  • Grades K-3: Start younger students out finding the fun in learning history with our unique programs for younger students. TEKS requires learning of local history in 2nd grade.

  • Grades 4-5: Most school systems in Texas require Texas history be taught in the 4th grade. What a wonderful time to use this unique TEKS supportive technique to introduce impressionable students to exciting Texas history.

  • Grades 6-8: Most school systems in Texas require Texas history be taught again in the 7th grade. This is a time to challenge the students who are getting their second view of Texas history by having them come face-to-face with people they have read about. Expose some for the first time to Texas history....help them with the TAKS tests. In 8th grade, American history is taught....two pivotal individuals in American history are Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin

  • Grades 9-12: This is the time to reinforce the student's knowledge of Texas history through the use of an "edutainment" vehicle. Let them relive the Texas Revolution in one hour, or re-hear the tales of the cattle drives and ranching, or find out about a part of Texas history they didn't get in their text books. In 11th grade, American history is taught....two pivotal individuals in American history are Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin

  • Fundraising: After dinner theater for parents at a fund raising dinner. Our programs are entertaining, and educational, for people of all ages.

The length of the portrayal is adjustable and the Q&A session is optional. Audiences up to 150 are appropriate, however, the smaller the group, the more impact the message. When a microphone is not required, this edutainment event is intimate and personal.
